What started as an idea written on paper turned into a full-blown national adventure.
A few months ago, we submitted a proposal for an automated toll gate system for the Battle of the Bots competition, an inter-school robotics contest focused on innovation and impact. We were excited when our project was selected, but that was only the beginning.
Every weekend after school, our team from Jade-British Int'l School, trained by Nibi's Tech, came together to build, test, and refine the project. These were students who started with basic knowledge and grew steadily, step by step, into problem-solvers, coders, and builders. They gave up their playtime, stayed back every weekend, and kept going even when parts didn't work or wires got tangled. We saw determination. We saw growth.
After passing the online evaluation phase, we packed up and travelled by road from Bayelsa to Lagos a long, stressful journey. The students were tired, but that didn't stop them. We arrived a day before the competition, and instead of resting, the kids practiced all night to be ready. No complaints. Just passion.
On the competition day, they stood confidently beside students from all over Nigeria, some of whom had advanced and imported robotics kits. But our students stood tall using locally sourced materials, powered by knowledge, resilience, and teamwork.
We are proud to say we came 4th overall, and we also won the Category Award for Best Project in Security.
